The garlic sets, Albigensian Wight, came from the Ilse Of Wight Garlic Farm last October. They stored quite well with only 2-3 cloves being lost over the last three months.

Do you normally sow your garlic in January?
Last season I found that the garlic that was sown in 2008 autumn grew to larger proportions than the ones sown in early Feb 2009.
I procastinated in 2009 autumn and so I will be planting out my garlic within the next week or so.
What has been you experience so far with late winter sowing of garlic?

With regards to the garlic, we bought it in the hope of planting in November, but it turned out to be a complete wash-out as you remember - cold and wet. Rather than risking it rotting in the ground before it started growing we thought we'd hold off.
It took a bit of research, but found and interesting suggestion in an RHS book for starting off in pots. Our thinking is that this should get them growing better than planting into the ground this month.
We're not going to get the size we would have if planted in October/November. However, as
we only want green bulbs to use as vegetables in their own right (for roasting and stir frying)we don't need huge bulbs.
Anyway - time will tell. We'll keep you update.
Your pots look great, recycling at it's best. I use the inside tubes of loo rolls to start off my seeds. Having a teenage son I find that I have plenty for my needs.

I want to grow garlic to store hence why I would like bigger bulbs so I really hope my procastination doesn't bit me in the a... :) as I hate having to peel the small tiddly ones >:(

I haven't got round to planting my garlic, not for the same reasons as Kella. I have just been lazy, so hope to get some in the next couple of weeks.
I have been recycling toilet paper rolls and kitchen rolls (which I cut in half) for broad beans and peas since I got my allotment. But last year my nephew brought back that wooden gadget from his trip to Pakistan, after seeing one of the stall holders using the nifty tool to make a little packages/bags out of recyled newspaper to hold warm spiced nuts. It is really good.
